Infant Baptism

A great pamphlet on the practice of infant baptism in reformed (presbyterian) churches entitled Infant Baptism and Conversion is written by Dr. J. Douma. I am working out extracting the main points of this pamphlet for my next post. One thing I have found, in order to continue discussion on this subject with reformed baptists, is that when talking of circumcision it amounts to nothing more than a 'carnal' external sign that the circumcised belong to Israel. This all falls away to fruitless talk when we get in the NT. The baptist stops short of continuing the line in circumcision to baptism; one deals with the 'carnal' the other the spiritual and the two are distinctly different belonging to two separate dispensations. The purpose of Douma's pamphlet is to demonstrate that this is not a strictly biblical way to look at the issue. Douma does a great job continuing the line of thought that Dr David Kingdon so abruptly stopped short of which would clearly defend the practice of infant baptism by equating both the 'carnal' and the spiritual elements together forming one inseparable connection. A must read!
